Halo CE Browser: Halo: Combat Evolved in a Tab

Halo CE Browser is an unofficial fan project that runs the original Halo: Combat Evolved in a web browser tab. No installer or launcher is needed; this page explains what works, what is experimental and what to watch out for.

What is Halo CE Browser?

In late September 2026, developer Mitch Hynes released an unofficial browser port of the original Xbox version of Halo: Combat Evolved. It builds on the Halo CE Universal decompilation effort and is not a Microsoft product. Reports said the campaign loads directly in a browser tab, with no separate install or launcher.

What can you do in the browser version?

How to play Halo CE in your browser

Open the browser build on a desktop PC, wait for it to load, and start playing. Mobile browsers are not recommended: the port was reported to run poorly on iOS and Android. Depending on the build, you may need your own game files, so follow the project's current instructions.

The independent article eTeknix links to the playable browser build; the underlying Halo CE Universal project hosts the decompilation work. We do not host the game here.

Is Halo CE Browser official?

No. It is independent fan work, unrelated to Microsoft and separate from any official remake. Availability and performance can change at any time.
